An honest statement.

This statement covers the Bothy & Burn demonstration website. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. This is a demo, and has not had a formal audit by an outside body.

What we have checked

• Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, and focus is always visible.
• A skip link takes you past the navigation to the main content.
• Headings follow a logical order, with one main heading per page.
• Text and controls meet a contrast ratio of at least 4.5 to 1 for body text and 3 to 1 for large text, in both the day and night themes.
• Every image has a description, and decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers.
• Form fields have visible labels and clear error messages that appear when you leave a field.
• Touch targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
• Moving elements (the star field, the shooting star and the scroll-driven night story) stop or become static when your device is set to reduce motion.
• The page works without JavaScript for reading. The booking calendar needs JavaScript, and the page says so and gives a phone number and email.

The booking calendar and sky chart

The calendar works with the arrow keys, Page Up and Page Down, and announces your chosen dates and the total price to screen readers. Each constellation on the sky chart is a button, and the same list appears as a set of buttons beside it, so you never need to use the picture. The month-by-month table gives the same information in plain text.

Day and night themes

The sun and moon button in the header switches between a light day theme and a dark night theme. We store your choice on your device only. If you do not choose, we follow your device setting.

Known gaps

• The star field is decorative and cannot be paused with a button. It is hidden from assistive technology and respects the reduce-motion setting.
• The date pickers on the home page use your browser’s own control, which varies between browsers.
• The sky chart is a graphic. Constellation positions are calculated for the chosen month and time, but are approximate.
• We have not tested with every assistive technology. We have tested with keyboard only, and with common browser zoom up to 200%.

Accessibility at the farm

Our huts are not suitable for wheelchair users. The huts have three steps to the door and the terraces are uneven. The Bothy has one step and a wider door. Please call us to talk it through. More in the questions page.
