Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to look at the barn, check a date and book a viewing. Here is what we have done and what we know is not perfect.

This is a demonstration website. The statement describes how the demo was built, and is written as a real one would be.

Our aim

This website aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It is built in plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and every page works with JavaScript turned off, except the calendar and estimator, which need it to calculate.

What we have done

  • A skip link, one main heading per page and headings in order.
  • Light and dark themes, both checked for text contrast of at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text. The theme switch is in the header and remembers your choice.
  • Visible focus rings, and touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels.
  • The calendar is a keyboard grid: arrow keys move between days, Page Up and Page Down change month, Enter selects. Availability is shown by shape and text as well as colour.
  • Estimates and date results are announced to screen readers as they change.
  • Form fields have visible labels and error messages next to the field.
  • Descriptive alternative text on every image, and decorative drawings hidden from assistive technology.
  • The wedding stories reel is a scrollable region that can be reached and moved with the keyboard, and has previous and next buttons.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the slow zoom, flicker, scrolling effects and reveal animations are turned off.

Known gaps

  • The date picker in the hero and the viewing form uses your browser's built-in control, which varies between browsers. You can always type the date.
  • The horizontal marquee of highlights pauses on hover but has no pause button. It stops when reduced motion is on, and the same facts appear elsewhere on the site.
  • Photographs are illustrative stock images. Alternative text describes what is shown, not the venue.
  • We have tested with a keyboard, with VoiceOver on a Mac and iPhone and with browser zoom to 400%. We have not yet had the site audited by disabled users.

The venue itself

The barn, courtyard and the Millstone bedroom are step-free from the car park. The barn has accessible toilets and a hearing loop. Tell us what you need before a viewing and we will prepare for it.

Tell us about a problem

If something on this site does not work for you, email weddings@example.co.uk or ring 0161 496 0142. We aim to reply within two working days and to fix real barriers within a month.
